ABSTRACT

The basic aim of primary education is to enable the development of the personality of an individual, which means a balanced development of different aspects of a child’s personality and his/her potential, and to educate him/her for autonomous balancing of his/her needs with the needs of society. Primary school provides a foundation for the further education and training of a young person, with emphasis on permanent education and quality knowledge for all young people. It develops basic classical and modern literacies, enables the understanding of natural and social phenomena, ensures the basic knowledge of languages and humanities, aesthetic experience, artistic expression and evaluation, and provides for the healthy physical and psychological development of young person. In view of the educational aims of primary school further education and training of a young person should be considered, emphasizing thereby the preparation for permanent education. Primary school should educate pupils to successfully face the developing economic and social needs of Republic of Slovenia.
