ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the potential for collaborative or participatory evaluation as an organizational learning system by examining its consequences at the school and district levels. Most affected by the participatory nature of the evaluation experience were those directly involved—the evaluation team, and to a lesser extent, those who provided the team with their data. The chapter provides the opportunity to understand the organizational consequences, planned and unplanned, of collaborative evaluation, and also provides a chance to identify and track the influence of conditions and factors that led to them. A form of participatory evaluation was implemented in a high school located in a medium-sized public school district in east-central Ontario. The collaborative evaluation team received an invitation from the administrator to expand our mandate. Compared with the non-case schools in the system, substantial impact on central administration seems to have occurred.
