ABSTRACT
The Colombian emerald deposits undewent strong fluid/rock interactions between basinal brines and Cretaceous black shales leading to Na-metasomatism (albitization) and cation exchanges. Mobile Be (3ppm) supported by the clay fraction is the source of the emerald mineralisation.
