ABSTRACT

The Srednogorie zone of the Carpatho-Balkan Segment (CBS) represents magmatites with bimodal characteristics of late Cretaceoes (?) activity. Important Cu-Au-Mo ore deposits are associated with these magmatites. Published K/Ar as well as Rb/Sr data show a wide range from 60 to 90 Ma. We present the first high precisision U/Pb zircon data for several magmatic rocks. The leucogranites of the Varshilo pluton (south of the Panagyurishte zone) showing an intrusion age of 82.25 ± 0.4 Ma and magmatic dykes from the Elatsite ore deposit (north of the Panagyurishte zone) represent intrusion ages of 92.3 ± 1.4 Ma and 91.84 ± 0.3 1Ma.
