ABSTRACT

Bitumens from the Mir kimberlite pipe, brecciated and hydrothermally altered dolomites from the Sugunakh tectonic block, the Polivckoe and Yubileinoe iron-ore deposits on the Siberian platform, and the Kuryltyken Pb-Zn deposit (Transbaikalia) were analysed. Organic analyses permit establishment of similarities between the bitumens from various occurrences. The hexane fraction provides distinctions. The differences are more evident in the mass fragmentograms, obtained by gas chromatography – mass spectrometry. All bitumens are characterized by the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which are indicative of the hydrothermal origin of the organic matter. The hopanes and triterpanes do not provided such diagnostic information.
