ABSTRACT

Geochemical and mineralogical data from surface and drill core samples from the two porphyry centers of the Skouries deposit, may contribute to the establishment of controlling factors of the precious metal enrichment in porphyry-Cu systems, and to an extend to the evaluation of Pd as an economic factor for this type of deposit. The potential of the Skouries deposit is approximately 10 tons Pd and 2.2 tons Pt. A major crustal contribution, possibly by assimilation of the country rocks (amphibolite-metabasalt and ultramafic rocks) at depth, prior to the final emplacement, and the magmatic feature of very limited participation of any meteoric component in the hydrothermal circulation system of Skouries, seem to be the major controlling factors of the precious metal enrichment.
