ABSTRACT

Initial results of MC-ICP-MS lead isotopic studies of pre-, late-, and post-Variscan mineralization phases in the Erzgebirge-Slavkovský les metallogenetic province reveal different Pb sources. The Pb isotopes of Sn-W and polymetallic sulfide mineralizations of the Erzgebirge and Kutná Hora district, which are not overprinted by U-enriched hydrothermal solutions, are very distinct. These data represent the original late-Variscan Pb isotopic signature which is interpreted by a mixture of Pb derived from mantle and upper crust. This is consistent with the hypothesis, that the late-Variscan mineralization of the Erzgebirge is associated with a mantle-induced bimodal magmatism.
