ABSTRACT

A 1:5,000,000 map covering the territory of Eastern and Southern Siberia, Mongolia, Northeast China, Southeastern Russia, Korea, and Japan, is being compiled. Principles and methods of terrane analysis, serving as the basis for the map, are discussed, and definitions of key concepts, craton, terrane, accretion, amalgamation, and dispersion, are given. Environments of different types of terranes are shown on the map, overlapping and suturing formations are classified according to actualistic principles.
