ABSTRACT

Ages of Miocene intrusions at Domo de Yauli were determined using the U/Pb dating method on zircons. They reveal the existence of three distinct magmatic events at 14, 9 and 6.6 Ma, the two younger one’s are related to the formation of Cu-porphyries and Zn-Pb-Ag skarns, veins and carbonate replacement orebodies. It is concluded that the large abundance of economic orebodies in the Domo de Yauli area is the result of two different hydrothermal systems related to different tectonic phases. One Cu-porphyry has a molybdenite Re-Os age of 8 Ma. Determination of paleostress related to the youngest event indicates shifting of compression from roughly E-W in the central part of the Domo de Yauli to N-S on its western flank. This shift of compression is suggested to be due to sinistral strike-slip movement along a basement lineament and controls the location of the ore deposits.
