ABSTRACT

Introduction: To present our experience with combined strabismus and cataract surgery in adult patients.

Design: Prospective noncomparative interventional case series study.

Methods: Three cases of combined strabismus and cataract surgery are described in 3 adults. Two had longstanding traumatic cataract with secondary strabismus and the other senile cataract and pre-existing strabismus for which she already had surgery with unsatisfactory outcome.

Results: Visual acuity improved in all 3 patients. Satisfactory ocular alignment was achieved with good cosmetic outcome in all cases.

Conclusions: Combined strabismus and cataract surgery in adults is a safe procedure that can optimise visual alignment and improve visual acuity in a single operation.
