ABSTRACT

Recent studies have revised the classification of post-Paleozoic crinoids based on morphological characteristics. We reassess interrelationships among the five surviving orders of articulate crinoids based on analyses of DNA sequences coding for the 28S subunit of ribosomal RNA. Members of the orders Isocrinida, Comatulida, Crytocrinida, Hyocrinida and Bourgueticrinida are treated. The resulting interrelationships are described and related to existing classifications based on morphological attributes.
