ABSTRACT
A historical overview is given on European developments in recycling technology for aqua-culture. Besides overall system design and conditions for various system components and associated improvements, some problems related to high density culture and water quality fluctuations are addressed. Examples are provided and a brief outlook on the future development as well as on gaps in science and technology are presented.
