ABSTRACT

Routine oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion of cod {Gadus morhua), weight 1–303 g, were measured in an open, flow-through respirometer at temperatures between 8 and 16 °C. Oxygen consumption was greater by a factor of 1.41.6 and ammonia excretion by a factor of 5.5–6.9 as compared with unfed fish. The Q10 for fed fish were 2.12 and 2.33 for oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion respectively. A model incorporating temperature and fish weight for oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion for unfed and fed fish has been developed.
