ABSTRACT

In 1992 four of the land based salmon farms in Norway were visited and data registrated by SINTEF NHL and Akva Instituttet A/S in Trondheim, Norway. The main conclusion is that valuable experiences have been achieved and the security and thereby the economic situation of the farms improves constantly. The land based farms also represent much higher security to the environment and harmony with nature.

Based on the security status of the plants today a risk analysis has been done and risk reducing improvements and precautions described. The registrations of the four salmon farms seemed to verify much more positive than negative experiences. This is impressing, specially because of the short time of operation of these plants.
