Expansive clay soils and their effects on a factory building in the Sudan

This short paper presents the results of an investigation into the failure of the foundations of a factory building erected on expansive soils in the Sudan. Suggestions are put forward for the reasons for the failure and recommendations are made for the design of foundations in similar soil conditions.
