ABSTRACT
This paper gives a brief introduction of the major problems relating to the saline soil in the arid zone of China. The collapsibility and expansibility of saline soil foundation are discussed in the paper. Some of the measures applied in engineering practice for mitigating damage from soil slumping and heaving are also presented.
