ABSTRACT
The purpose of this paper is to describe the product characteristics of a Geomembrane Supported Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) and its application to cap systems. The reader will be informed of a 1993 project in Germany where a contaminated area of 20,000 m2 was covered with a Geomembrane Supported GCL, including deployment and anchoring to junctions and penetrations.
The Geomembrane Supported GCL offers an innovative and economical alternative to conventional compacted soil covers and cap systems. Given the technical nature of the product, special considerations must be incorporated into the cap design and product installation.
