ABSTRACT

This paper presents three profiles with palaeosols from the Bavarian Alpine Foreland: Attenfeld near Neuburg/Donau, Rosshaupten near Burgau/Schwaben and Hinterschmalholz near Obergünzburg/Allgäu. As examples from periglacial and glacial regions they demonstrate the importance of palaeosols in Quaternary stratigraphy. Furthermore, in the Rosshaupten profile the Brunhes-Matuyama palaeomagnetic epoch boundary can be demonstrated.
