ABSTRACT
With the increasing costs of Medium and High Head Hydro Power Stations, necessity has been felt to utilize the available drops on the existing canals so that the investment of the project vis-a-vis its completion period is comparatively less and the benefit is accrued in shorter span of time. Flap gates/Radial gates installed just u/s the drop will open automatically as the water level in the intake forebay rises. The intake forebay shall be built on an off-take channel to be constructed on one side of the branch canal. The layout of the intake, power house and tail race is as per conventional practice but the Bypass channel in having its common bank as the power house wall. This layout is explained in Plate. The by pass gates are vertical lift gates, to be operated electrically being actuated automatically by sensors installed in the bypass conduit/channel. This type of layout has been installed in some Micro power houses in Russia.
