ABSTRACT

Small Hydro, in hilly and remote areas cut off from the electricity network, is of great relevance to a developing country like India having enormous potential in Himalayan ranges. Higher engineering challenges are involved in implementation of hilly hydels. This has been realised by Govt. of India whose incentives are on a higher scale for such schemes which are also supported by GEF, UNDP, World Bank & IREDA etc.

The paper attempts to address the various technical issues that pose challenge while implementing small hydro in hilly regions.
