ABSTRACT
Selection of the type of technology has long been recognized as a very important part for the success of implementation of a project. The World Bank has been involved with many projects small and big where the fundamental consideration in implementation is to ensure the right choice of technology. Increasingly the Bank has been involved in many large dam and tunneling projects where the economics have completely dominated the choice of technology. Lining quality can be better controlled through segment production factory which has good control on concrete quality, curing rates and steel placement. It is therefore preferred in specially long tunnels requiring lining to use Tunnel Boring Machines for construction over D/B techniques since there is a better chance of maintaining quality. The project main works would start from the Wanjiazhai Hydropower Dam on the bend of the Yellow River from the west and travel westward splitting southward to Taiyuan City and northward to Pingshuo and Datong cities..
