      ABSTRACT

      The search for an objective measure of technique in front crawl swimming has led to much interest in the estimation of hand forces. The most popular procedure (hydrodynamic analysis) has been questioned and the limitations of this approach discussed. A proposed mechanical and computer modelling approach is presented with the aim that the combination of these models will allow a realistic estimation of the dynamic propulsive forces in the front crawl stroke.
