ABSTRACT

On a volcanic plateau in Sardinia, both the Italian Electricity Board (ENEL) and the Local Region are developing two different projects: a wind power plant with 40 turbines the former, a regional park the latter. Both projects originated from the distinctive features of the site, its windy climate and its historical and natural values. The simultaneous presence on one site of great natural beauty and good wind-power suitability is very common, and gives the method here shown a wider importance. This project aims at surpassing a design based on strictly functional parts. It tries to develop a strategy working on interactions between the physical shape of the landscape and the complementarity of the briefs, taking advantage of the experience of artists who, over the last twenty years, have taught us to look at the landscape and its development in a different and more critical way.
