ABSTRACT
In the framework of the EU JOULE/APAS project “EPURE” Ambiente Italia applied a methodology for the selection of wind farm sites in the region of Sardinia. It is a desk based macrositing approach with the aim to arrive at a first selection of sites. In a first step a GIS based information system has been established, which allows to exclude non suitable areas for wind installations for the whole territory of the main island of Sardinia and to define possibly economic sites. Also, environmental and landscape aspects have been considered, by excluding especially sensitive areas and by indicating areas of high environmental value. The energetic potential of the selected sites has been estimated and their economy has been evaluated by estimating the internal rate of return. The resulting sites are preliminary ones. In a next step outside of this project, the sites have to be analysed in detail by applying an on-site survey.
