ABSTRACT

This paper is aimed at presenting a nonlinear model for consolidation problems. The reference configuration is assumed to be the configuration of the soil skeleton and, consistently, balance equations for the fluid are also given in a Lagrangian formulation. Both the problems of partition of the stress tensor between the two phases and the use of the Darcy’s law as a momentum balance equation are discussed. Finally the one-dimensional case is validated throughout the data of a case history.
