ABSTRACT

The plasticity index of a material stands out as the most significant indicator of peak and residual friction angle of coherent soils and soft rocks. The highest values of plasticity index, but also the liquid limit, correspond to lowest expected, and practically confirmed, values of friction angle. This fact opens the possibility of proceeding a new aproach to exact geotechnical modeling. An ultimate aim of modeling is a consistent correlational geotechnical column in a relatively limited area of investigation, and its structure requires a consistent application of the RNK (reference level of correlation) method. Definitions are provided for “correlational geotechnical column” and “reference level of correlation”.
