ABSTRACT

The paper describes the liquefaction hazard evaluation by the Swedish weight sounding test which seems to be suitable for housing sites because this penetration test method has the advantages of portability, easy operation and enough penetration ability. The Swedish weight sounding tests were carried out in the model grounds as well as in the fields where liquefaction damages were observed during the past earthquakes. A chart was prepared to discriminate between occurrence and non-occurrence of ground rupturing due to liquefaction. Results of the evaluation showed reasonably good agreement with the damage of the site.
