ABSTRACT

The Pliva river waterfall at Jajce is a calc-sinter (tuff calcarious) barrier formed at the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas. Waterfall was originally located at the very confluence of the two rivers. Some 50 years ago it collapsed and moved upstream about 30 m to its present position. The new position of the overflow profile was protected by certain interventions (construction of overflowing barriers). At the end of 1996 a part of the waterfall collapsed again. That was the reason for new intervention and remedial works. The paper gives a short survey of events preceding the collapse of the part of the waterfall as well as the description of the proposed remedial works. A part of these works was executed preventively and final remediation will be undertaken in the forthcoming period.
