ABSTRACT

Introduction of the probabilistic safety determination based on partial safety factors defined in the European Code represents, a difficult problem for geotechnical structures. Because of the incompleteness of the subsurface investigations, the underground heterogeneity and specificity in comparison to the other construction materials, it is not possible to describe the reality of the underground environment.

This paper aims to introduce the reliability assessment as alternative or complementary safety concept in the tunnel design. The reliability assessment calculation with the computational model is outlined on the practical example.
