ABSTRACT
The effect of the ISSMGE to support the large interest of a major group of geotechnical researchers for discussion topics with environmental impact, resulted already in three ICEG conferences and many specialized Seminars. The work of ITC5 has always been the major triggering effect to organise those scientific events. In this paper the accomplishments of the ITC5 group of experts will be briefly summarized.
