ABSTRACT

We describe here the preparation and characterization of a new class of nonlinear optical (NLO) crosslinked polymer network based on organosoluble polyimides. Sol—gel reaction of a nonlinear optically active alkoxysilane dye (ASD) is utilized to create a polymer network. Excellent long-term stability of the effective second harmonic coefficients (d eff) at 120°C is observed because of the features of high glass transition temperature and extensive crosslinking. An interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) system consisting of a polyimide/ASD and a crosslinkable NLO-active polymer is also reported.
