ABSTRACT

The article concerns two problems of the hand treatment solved by the ANSYS programme. The contractures result from profound burns, scald, electric shock, and from secondary healed wounds. There are two ways of treatment flexion contractures of the proximal interphalangeal joint: (i) the conservative treatment by gradual splintage, (ii) traction using a reposition device. In order to find out the actual stress state of the articulate cartilage it was necessary to create the computation model of behaviour of the joint structure during treatment.

The further aim of the contribution is to submit experience with the computational modelling of the behaviour silastic Swanson’s prosthesis of the wrist of the original and modified type. The computational models of these types were derived on the basis surgery’s experience. Computational studies of two deformation states of the wrist were carried out for flexion 20 degrees and extension 30 degrees. Obtained mechanical quantities for two types of the wrist joint implant were compared and results were summarised.
