ABSTRACT

Modern Science is a relatively young force among those potent influences which have the power to shape human society. Historically the roots of modern science can be found in the study of Natural Philosophy. The original natural philosophers sought a convincing, rational explanation of how the cosmos began, and how it changes and becomes everything, including us. For many, earlier creation myths and stories were surpassed by pre-Socratic explanations which often possessed a compelling, persuasive power. Over time, the scientific community has become a circle of like-minded thinkers inspired by a shared curiosity about the way the world works, and engaged in an enormously grand enterprise: the explanation of all natural phenomena. Science and technology have made it possible to do any number of amazing things. Using the knowledge borne of our difficult history, it is time to move forward wisely.
