Hydrogeological potential for Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) in England and Wales

A scoping study was initiated in September 1996 to investigate the hydrogeological and regulatory issues constraining the use of ASR in Britain. The major aquifers of Britain were assessed in terms of their hydrogeological potential for ASR, and the regulatory issues addressed. This paper briefly describes the significant hydrogeological issues and assesses the ASR potential of British aquifers in terms of their hydrogeological characteristics.
