ABSTRACT

A set of tools for the determination of the clogging potential of water used for artificial recharge in deep sandy aquifers was used at two different locations. The results revealed that with the Parallel Filtration Device (PFD) the prediction of the clogging rate in a recharge well was not possible. MFI and the AOC-concentration of water proved to be valuable parameters to estimate the clogging potential of water. In combination with the PFD using a standard filter medium the clogging potential of water can be assessed more accurately. Further research is necessary to elucidate the relationship between the clogging in recharge wells and in the PFD columns with a suitable standard filter medium.
