ABSTRACT

This paper analyzes the stability of the Toompea Hill, using theoretical and numerical modeling. Calculations were performed by FLAC-code. One-dimensional groundwater and consolidation (fully coupled) model was used. The applicability of one-dimensional model was demonstrated. Analysis showed that the Toompea Hill deformations are connected with the subsidence of the territory of Tallinn. The compaction of Ordovician-Cambrian and Cambrian-Vendian aquifer-aquitard systems causes the surface subsidence. Investigations showed that the Toompea Hill deformation is 6 mm. It is quite small and does not influence on the stability of the Toompea Hill.
