ABSTRACT

A new elasto-plastic analysis model for composite material is proposed to investigate the bearing capacity of the reinforced soil. For this, a macro level yield function together with a homogenisa-tion technique is introduced and the fictitious cohesion as well as the fictitious friction angle are used to define the material parameters of the yield function. The results are compared with the various analysis models including micro level yield function proposed previously [1]. It is shown that the elasto-plastic behaviour of the grout-reinforced foundation using the proposed model in two dimensional space is almost the same as that of the fully discretized three dimensional results. It is also found that the results utilising the macro level model are more realistic compared with those by the micro level model. Future studies will be concentrated on the tensile behaviour of the composite material and the results will be published in due course.
