ABSTRACT
The kinematics of a shear band viewed as a discontinuity in a solid are considered. So-called strong and weak discontinuity models are discussed and their interrelation is shown. Next, the weak discontinuity model is cast within the formalism of an Enhanced Assumed Strain finite element approach.
