ABSTRACT

The extended subloading model by Hashiguchi & Chen (1998) satisfies the conditions of continuity, the condition of smoothness, and it can describe the Masing effect. Further, induced and inherent anisotropy can be modeled. However, explicit integration of the rate equations leads to inaccurate results and instability of the computation. For efficient use in geotechnical analysis, it is thus desirable that integration is carried out in an implicit fashion. In this paper an algorithm is proposed, which results in a simple algorithmic treatment of the rate equations. Numerical results are presented, which show a robust behaviour of the algorithm.
