ABSTRACT

The historical Russia Wharf buildings are located in the corner between the Northbound tunnel and ventilation shaft No. 3 of the Central Artery in Boston, Massachusetts. These buildings are protected historic monuments and are very sensitive to ground movements. To determine the settlements below the Russia Wharf buildings, a three-dimensional Finite Element calculation was carried out with the aim of deciding whether the design of the chosen construction sequence and support measures is in fact adequate.
