ABSTRACT

The paper presents some calculations of the hydro-mechanical disturbances arising in the surroundings of galleries driven in saturated porous media and takes a special interest in the influence of the constitutive model on the numerical predictions. The comparison of predictions made with three models points out significant differences in pore water pressure profile and consequently in effective stresses. Conventional models like Mohr-Coulomb and Cam-clay are not sophisticated enough to assess adequately the disturbances while more sophisticated models like kinematic hardening ones clearly lead to better predictions.
