ABSTRACT

A relatively simple elasto-plastic model for liquefaction analysis of granular soils is presented in this paper. The Mohr-Coulomb constitutive law is modified to accommodate permanent strains generated by cyclic loading. Results of experimental studies on samples of sand are used to evaluate the effect of cyclic loading. The practicability of the model is demonstrated by analysis of a typical offshore foundation, and the predictions of the numerical analysis are compared with the observed behaviour of the foundation.
