ABSTRACT

A pile foundation with reinforced bars has been proposed by Matsuo and Ueno(1989), and is put into practical use for increasing uplift bearing capacity of transmission towers and others. Numerical study also has been carried out to clarify the reinforcing mechanism of this type of foundation (Nakai and Ueno, 1996). In the present study, for investigating the mechanism of such type of reinforced foundation more precisely, 2 dimensional model tests and the corresponding numerical analyses were performed, in which the stiffness of reinforcements, the roughness of reinforcements and the insertion direction of reinforcements are different. The results obtained from the model tests and numerical analyses show that in every case the reinforcements protruded off diagonally downward are the most effective.
