ABSTRACT

The Jericho Kimberlite pipe is situated (figure 1) North West of Contwoyto Lake, NWT. In 1994 / 95 mineral trains and drilling proved the JD-01 pipe to be on dry land. TMCC mobilised for the 1996 winter road window, and portalling occurred in April. Site activities were suspended in June due to migration activities. After-wards the decline began again, and by mid September the Granite / Kimberlite interface was intercepted. The exploration of the intrusions, which form JD-01, was a vindication for all parties involved, as actual conditions necessitated little modification of original specifications. The project advanced in six discreet areas within the four facies which comprise the pipe complex. By November 1996 the 15,000 tonne bulk sample was complete, tear down underground and fixing a portal door was completed in early December. A significant number of large diamonds have been extracted from the sample to warrant pre-feasibility studies on the JD-01 pipe.
