ABSTRACT

Groundwater quality has been assessed along the coastal zone of Vasai-Palghar, Maharashtra. Based on chemical mixing models and GIS based thematic maps, two saline groundwater zones have been identified. Br, I and Cl contents in the groundwater indicate that the low saline zone is due to the contamination by the high I-clays in the tidal flats while the high saline zone is due to the contamination by the brine form the salt pans.
