ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to acquire a better understanding of the potential for transfer of the protozoan pathogen Cryptosporidium parvum through aquifers to drinking water wells. First of all the factors that characterise the transport of C. parvum in porous media are experimentally determined. Closed reactor assays (batch assay) are realised in order to determine adsorption properties of C. parvum oocysts under different conditions. The results show an influence of mineralogy and surface coatings on the phenomenon.
