ABSTRACT

A stochastic approach is adopted for characterizing uncertainty in time related well capture zones in heterogeneous formations. Transmissivity is modeled as a random space function, conditioned on a single measurement. A method for quantifying uncertainty is used to assess the effects of conditioning on the extent of the well capture zone. Numerical experiments using Monte Carlo simulations indicate that conditioning performance is best just upstream of the well. The relationship between log-transmissivity magnitude and conditioning performance exhibits an almost linear, negative correlation related to the magnitude of the capture zone time.
