ABSTRACT

This paper proposes a framework to determine allocation of pumping wells to maximize the removal ratio of the pollutants for a fixed period. This method includes finite difference method to calculate the velocity distribution of groundwater, method of characteristics to calculate the pollutant concentration, neural network to get the relationship between the allocation of pumping wells and removal ratio, and genetic algorithm to determine the optimal allocations of well. This method applied to the groundwater pollution problem of an artificial aquifer system. The result shows the effectiveness of this method.
