ABSTRACT

Stable isotopic compositions are applied to investigate the flow pattern and groundwater-surface water mixing at an artificial recharge test site in Denmark. The isotopic compositions of interstitial water in the vadose zone reveal significant maxima and minima reflecting seasonal variations in infiltrating surface water. The isotopic compositons of groundwater beneath the test site indicate a mixing of groundwater and surface water in the upper region of the aquifer depending on the distance from recharge basins and the hydraulic gradient.
