ABSTRACT

This paper presents the results of a survey on the education in geotechnical engineering in some important Brazilian universities. A questionnaire was distributed to the universities and the data returned was compiled and summarized. The results obtained show that the total number of hours of compulsory courses can vary markedly among the institutions, being particularly higher in public universities. The same happens with regard to optional courses. Many universities are now reviewing their programmes in civil engineering and an increase of the number of courses on geotechnical subjects is expected.
